Enhanced My Life by Providing an Outlet for My Desire to Learn

Karen ZuckersteinAbout ten years ago, Washington D.C. resident Karen Zuckerstein decided to visit Israel. The standard tours did not appeal to her; she was looking for something different. Then, she found Melton—only to learn that many of her friends and acquaintances had beat her to it.

Since that initial seminar, Karen has traveled with Melton to Italy, Prague, and Berlin. “Every site that you visit is a reason for in-depth learning and exploration.” Karen regularly corresponds with friends she met on these trips from across the US and Australia.

Karen has always been interested in Jewish history and the evolution of modern and contemporary Judaism. Now that she has retired, Melton is helping her pursue those interests. Karen points to several favorite courses that deepened her knowledge of Jewish connections, but her “absolute favorite” is a Melton course on the evolution of different Jewish denominations.  The class was taught by four rabbis from three different synagogues. “It was clear that they enjoyed teaching together, and that really enhanced the class.”

Karen has chosen to give to Melton because “it provides quality adult Jewish education,” and it “has really enhanced my life by providing an outlet for my desire to learn. All the instructors and materials are great at Melton, which makes the education so high quality.” Karen feels Melton stands out “for the investment it makes in each class to provide good quality materials on a subject,” and for focusing on curating a stimulating, relevant, and representative selection of sources for each course.
